The plot thickens
A short while ago, I wrote to this paper on the subject of affordable housing and its relationship to the Memorial Cemetery. Based on Ms Oates’ recent commentary suggesting Chapel Hill’s affordable housing plans may be in disarray and the fact the town may not have a plan for future cemetery space, in my commentary, I questioned the wisdom of relinquishing six acres of contiguous cemetery property for housing purposes.
Because the topic of burials is not necessarily a popular one, I was surprised to receive a number of telephone calls indicating others also question the decision. Moreover, I was encouraged to pursue the matter further. So by copy of this letter, I ask that the town provide our newspaper some needed clarification and also explain its long-term cemetery plans.
